Lusaka National Park is located roughly 30 kilometres from Zambia’s capital city and opened to the public in June 2015, making it Zambia’s newest and most accessible park. This new and exciting national park is the 20th National Park to be established in Zambia, and only the second national park to be established in a city environment, the first one is the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park in Livingstone.

There are more than 1 000 species found inside the park, including white rhino, giraffe, eland, hartebeest, zebra, sable, kudu, blue wildebeest, waterbuck, black lechwe, impala, puku, bushbuck, reedbuck, warthog, pangolin, and axis deers.

Tips for Your Visit

Vehicle: A 4×4 vehicle is highly recommended, as the unpaved roads can be rough and challenging during the rainy season.

Operating Hours: The park is typically open during standard daylight hours, but it is best to verify hours or book tours in advance.

Official Guides: While it is primarily a self-drive experience, local guides or community rangers are available to accompany visitors and help spot the park’s hidden wildlife.

Self-Drive Safaris: You can navigate the park's network of dirt roads on your own to spot grazing antelopes (impala, kudu, sable), blue wildebeest, and waterbuck.

Wildlife Discovery Centre: The park houses a Wildlife Discovery Centre—operated in partnership with Game Rangers International—which serves as the new home for the elephant orphanage previously located in Lilayi.

Picnic Sites: There are spacious, designated picnic areas equipped with braai (barbecue) facilities, tables, and shelters.

Walking Trails: For a more immersive experience, designated walking safaris and nature trails are available.
